I’ve spent the past year looking in – being with family,
maybe shrinking back a bit. I’ve been living in the everyday.
I don’t consciously say, today I will think of her…rather, it
is everyday that I see my Mom.
She is calling out, Chicks.
She is congratulating Ephraim on making honor roll and recommending a book;
She is sitting
beside me as I sew Rannanah’s Elsa costume;
She is in Orlee’s hand as she draws an
elephant; and at the library telling me I’m crazy for joining the Read to a dog program.
She is part of our everyday – at
dinner, before bed and just for a story.
When I saw Beyonce's "I was here", I wasn’t sure what moved me. It's
not really that good of a song, though Beyonce’s voice is beautiful. Then it
struck me, it reminded me of Mommy.
I think that everyone can agree, that she left a legacy that
said, “I was here.”
And although I think about her everyday, that does not
replace her actually being here.
Happy birthday Mommy, I do very much miss you.
P.S. For those wondering, this year, Elan and I will be
sponsoring a pre-Pesach dinner at our Shul for the yartzheits of Elan’s Mom and
my Mom.
